  1. Osborne Reynolds Fluid Flow Demonstration Senior Design Project EML 4552 Group #1 • John Curry • Antoine Berret • Edmund Laryea • Michael McIntyre

  2. Topics of Discussion • Project Proposal • Design Selection • Final Design • Results • Conclusion

  3. Project Proposal This project will furnish a bench-top unit that demonstrates laminar, transitional, and turbulent flow in a pipe using visualization technique similar to the classic experiments of Osborne Reynolds. The unit will be used for classroom demonstrations for beginning (or aspiring!) engineers. Hence, it must be safe, rugged, self-contained, and portable. The unit must be constructed of readily available parts (e.g., from a hardware store) and cost less than $200.

  18. Theoretical Values Testing Values Results

  19. Results • Produced laminar, transitional, and turbulent flow regimes • Flow regimes were clearly visible • Reynolds Number for each regime was within the expect values

  20. Recommendations • Syringe Pump • Better throttling valves • Variable output pump • Dye filtering system (closed system) • Better injection needle • Two additional flanged tubes (1/4”, 1/2”)
