FIRST IN DAILY NEWS U.S. funds creation of national health research network First CTSA Awards Announced October 3 • 12 Academic Health Centers (AHCs) nationwide • 52 AHC planning grants to prepare applications to join consortium • In 2012, ~60 institutions will be linked to energize clinical and translational science NIH Funds a Dozen 'Homes' for Translational Research

Impact • NCRR GCRC and K12 programs will be transitioned into CTSAs by 1012 • 2006 awards subsumed 16 GCRCs, 3 RM-K12,3 RM-T32s, 4 NCRR-K12, 9 K30s • First Principal Investigators Meeting: 10/23/06 • Second PI Meeting: 4/17/07 • Steering Committees that have met so far: • Informatics Translational Science • Communications (Web) Ethics • Evaluation

NCRR Management of CTSA Program NCRR Director NARRC Working Group IC Directors Advisory Board (5 members) NIH Executive Committee for CTSAs (15 members) Meets Monthly Representation from Program, Science, Evaluation, Bioinformatics, Education, OER, NCRR, Translational, Community Outreach Areas Project Management, Resource Access, Evaluation, Education & Career Development, Biomedical Informatics, Pediatrics, Industrial Partners, Clinical Research Ethics, Community Engagement, Translational NIH Subcommittees for CTSAs (14 cmtes; 5-10 members each) Regularly Scheduled Meetings Trans- NIH Project Team provides Science Officers for CTSAs (135 members) Meets 2 – 4x per year

  7. CTSA Steering Committees • Embody the expertise of the Consortium • Provide a forum for dialog with the NIH • Identify needs, goals and priorities • Serve as a forum to share experiences • Serve as a platform to adopt common standards

  8. Priorities for 2006 Awardees • Hold meetings for all Steering Committees • Build a culture based on sharing • Implement evaluation plans • Agree on achievable short-term goals • Deploy Web-based communications systems • www.ctsaweb.org
