  1. Top 4 Top 4 Okinawan Kobudo Weapons Okinawan Kobudo Weapons The term Kobudo is used for the weapon systems of Okinawan martial arts. Most of these weapon techniques are adaptations from the Karate empty hand techniques. Hence Kobudo weapons are extensions of karate techniques and enhance your attack as well as defense capabilities. You can enroll at a foremost academy that provides martial arts weapon training in Chandigarh. It is widely believed that most of the Kobudo weapons existed originally as farming tools. These were repurposed for self-defense against other weapons and swords. Here we are describing the top 4 Okinawan Kobudo weapons. 1. Nunchaku Nunchaku is comprised of two batons held together by a chain or rope. It is mid to long range weapon. It primarily serves as a flailing weapon, however, can also be used for grappling and blocking. In traditional form, Nunchaku is held towards the bottom to take advantage of its reach. However, in freestyle and Chinese styles the Nunchaku is held closer to the top of the baron. Its effectiveness primarily relies on the footwork and evasive techniques. 2. Bo Bo is a tall and long wooden staff popularly used in Okinawa. This works as a mid-range weapon and excels at long range attack. It can be used for sweeping, striking and blocking. It is very effective against the sword. These are around 1.8 m in length and made of hard or flexible wood such as red or white oak. The basis of the Bo technique is the hand and the thrusting, swinging and striking techniques resemble the empty hand movements. 3. Sai A Sai is pointed metal baton that contains three curved prongs projecting from the handle. Though it resembles a dagger it does not have a cutting edge. Sais are used in pairs to close the mid-range combat. Almost every empty hand karate strike and block can be adapted into a Sai technique. These can be used against the sword to break the blades. These are used to trap and block enemy attacks. The blade part known as hilt can be used to strike the opponent.

  2. 4. Kama It is a martial art weapon which is derived from the scythe. It is used in several Japanese, Filipino and Chinese martial art styles. In Okinawan Kobudo, Kama are used in pairs. These are held towards the bottom of the handle and used to defend against opponents armed with swords or Bo’s. A typical Kama technique involves blocking the oncoming strike with one Kama and then using the other one to counterattack. Both can also be used simultaneously to trap or block opponent’s weapon and deliver a double strike. These are the top weapons that you must be aware of if thinking about learning martial arts. You can consider attending an institute that provides martial arts training in Tricity to get trained by the expert professionals. Source: http://www.chandigarhmartialart.com/about-us.php
