6. DPFO vision Vision: To facilitate the entry of developing / smallholder poultry farmers, and especially those from previously disadvantaged communities, into the main-stream agricultural economy.

7. DPFO mission Mission: To lobby and facilitate resources for developing / smallholder poultry farmers to be able to manage successful poultry farming enterprises.

8. Objectives The DPFO fulfills a dynamic capacity building and advocacy role, and exerts pressure to mobilise resources from various quarters, including Government and the donor community.

12. Membership • The DPFO has 255 paid up members, • but has some 2 000 farmers on the DPFO database. There is clearly still work to be done to ensure all smallholder farmers are motivated to join the DPFO as members.

Industry TrainingDAFF DPFO Training Selection of the candidates was completed with the assistance of the DPFO and the regions covered were Gauteng, the North West Province, the Northern Cape, the Free State and KwaZuluNatal. This project will carry on in 2013, with 49 candidates already nominated for training. A request has been made to DAFF to consider extending the funding agreement for an additional four years.

37. Legislation The pending regulations on brining might actually help the DPFO producers, as the price of the main product produced by the large producers, IQF, will probably increase and so reduce the price gap between DPFO products and large commercial producer products.
