SUGGESTED STEPS FOR AGRICULTURAL POND EVALUATION & APPROVAL TO BUILD Note: This preliminary assessment does NOT constitute a formal soil or geologic investigation or a pond design, and should not be used for construction. The information on this form represents a preliminary site assessment to evaluate the feasibility of a potential pond site, and assist in determining the priority for engaging engineering services for a more thorough site investigation and design.

SUGGESTED STEPS FOR AGRICULTURAL POND EVALUATION & APPROVAL TO BUILD • Contact NRCS/SWCD to complete Preliminary Site Assessment for New Ponds • Review potential alternatives for agricultural water needs • Review potential regulatory requirements • Determine availability of technical and/or financial assistance • Secure preliminary pond layout (DLR Dam permit requirements) • USDA-FSA Farm Serial Number - initiate AD-1026 for Wetland Conservation (WC) certification; Confidentiality Agreement • No USDA-FSA Farm Serial Number, take Preliminary Site Assessment for New Ponds to Corps, DLR & DWQ for a preliminary assessment of regulatory requirements • Construct pond only after securing required permits and/or exemptions
