  2. The full name is William Shakespeare and hewasborn 23rd April, 1564. Hewasborn in a house on Hanleystreet in Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire. His father John Shakespeare was a glover and a propertyowner and married Mary Arden who gavebirth to eightchildren. One of themwas William Shakespeare. Hewas the thirdchild and the eldest son.

  3. In 1582 at the age of 18 hemarried a womannamed Anne Hathaway, a localgirl who waseightyearsolderthanhim. Their first child, Susanna, wasbornonlysixmonths later. Whenhewastwentyhebecame a father of three, when his wifegavebirth to twins, Judith and Hamnet.

  4. Seven years later heleft his family and moved to London. London was the center of theater and manytheaterbuildingswerebuilt in 1580. When Shakespeare first came to London he was an actor, buthealsowrote his own work. From 1590 hewasrecognized as the greatestdramatist of the country, and soonhebecame a rich man.

  5. Shakespeare wasmaybemostknown as a dramatist, buthealsowrote poems and sonnets. His collectedplayswerepublished 1623, sevenyears after his death. This collection is called ”first folio”. From the 38 playshewrote, somestoodoutmorethamothers, for example Romeo and Julia and Hamlet. • TraditionallyShakespeare´splays are split intothreecategories: tragedies, comedy and chronicle.
