  2. Podologist or foot care specialist. (English - Podiatry, German - foot specialist)is a medical practitioner with a first level professional higher education (4th level vocational skills, 5th LKI / ENI) • Podologyis a relatively new field of medicine in Latvia, and specialist education is particularly important in health care and the development of the country as a whole

  3. Topicality • The general aim of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) as a common reference system is to promote lifelong learning principle and foster international mobility of inhabitants • Latvia ECI offers the opportunity to describe the system of education in Latvia so that it and the qualifications awarded could be better understood in other countries (ECI, 2012)

Conclusions • There are common tendencies in the contents of study courses in the description of each country’s study programs; however, the amount of hours for earing credit points differs in clinical courses. • The amount of credit points (120 ECTS) in the podology education program in Latvia, which corresponds to the 4th level of professional qualification, is insufficient for new specialists to join European labour market.

  9. It is possible to improve the situation in podology education in Latvia by designing a new program for the next level of education
