  1. 9. Elie suffers a foot injury, and he has to go to a hospital for surgery. After the surgery he learns they are relocating the camp due to advancement of the Russians. 5. At Birkenau, Elie and his father are seperated from his mother and sisters. 3. In 1944, Germans occupy Sighet, and set up ghettos for the Jews. 7. From Auschwitz, Elie is moved to Buna, where he works at a factory. 11. His father soon falls very ill and dies, for a while Elie only lives through his body. 1. Elie and Moshe the Beadle become friends, and helps him study cabbala. 1941 1942 1944 1945 2. In 1942, Moshe the Beadle is transported, and then returns with a warning about the Germans. 4. The jews are forced into a compact cattle car, and their journey begins. Displays of cruelty are shown, when a women describes seeing fire is beat. 6. Elie and his father see many horrors in the crematory, and a ditch where babies are thrown. But they survive and are shaved, showered, and tattooed. 8. Elie starts to see things in a different light. They call it dehumanization. Elie is whipped 25 times for walking in on the Kapo and a girl. 10. They march to Buchenwald in the winter snow, luckily surviving. 12. April 11, 1945 American tanks arrive at Buchenwald and rescue the Jews, including Elie.
