Math Problem of the Day. Chapter 1. Important words to know. Greater than – 10 is greater then 1 - 10 > 1 Less then – 2 is less then 12 - 2 < 12 Addend – 3 + 4 =7, the 3 and 4 are addend. Sum – 3+4= 7, the sum is the answer to an addition sentence.

  2. Important words to know • Greater than – 10 is greater then 1 - 10>1 • Less then – 2 is less then 12 - 2<12 • Addend – 3+4=7, the 3 and 4 are addend. • Sum – 3+4=7, the sum is the answer to an addition sentence. • Difference – 7-4=3, the 3 is the answer to a subtraction problem.

  3. 1-1 I am greater then 3. I am less then 6. What number could I be? 4 or 5

  4. 1-2 There are 5 boys and 4 girls at the playground. There are 7 swings. Are there enough swings for each boy and girl? How do you know? No 5+4 =9 and 7<9

  5. 1-3 Use the number line in the box as addends. You can use each number more than once. Write two addition sentences with the same sum. 2 3 0 5 4 1 Possible answers: 2+2=4, 3+1=4, 2+3=5, 4+1=5,4+4=8, or 5+3=8

  6. 1-4 Tim has 5 toy cars. Some are red cars. Some are blue cars. How many of each kind could Tim have? 1 red 4blue 1blue4 red 3 red 2blue

  7. 1-5 Jenny buys a package of balloons for a part. 9 friends said that they were coming. But, two more showed up. Did she have enough balloons for everyone? How do you know? No- why?

  8. 1-6 I am thinking of two numbers. There sum is 9. There are four letters in the word name for each number. What numbers am I thinking of? 4 and 5 4+5=9 Four + five = nine

  9. 1-7 Seats in the row are numbered in order. Ian is sitting in seat 9. Jan is sitting three seats away. Which seat could she be sitting in? 6 or 12

  10. 1-8 I am thinking of a two numbers. Their sum is 12. Their difference is 2. What are the numbers? 5 and 7 Sum…. 5+7=12 Difference….7-5=2
