The Mystery of the Toxic Templex

The Mystery of the Toxic Templex. First, divide the Templex into rectangles. There are several different ways to do this. Below is one suggestion. The dimensions of the bottom rectangle are easy. Length = 45km and width = 12km. Multiply these two numbers to get the area.

  1. The Mystery of the Toxic Templex

  2. First, divide the Templex into rectangles. There are several different ways to do this. Below is one suggestion.

  3. The dimensions of the bottom rectangle are easy. Length = 45km and width = 12km. Multiply these two numbers to get the area.

  4. The middle rectangle, however, is not so easy. • The distance across the entire complex is 28km + 45km= 73km 73km

  5. We know the section on the left is 28km • And the section on the right is 25km • So, the length in between must be 73km – 28km – 25km = ? ? 73km

  6. You can find the width of the middle rectangle in the same way. • The distance along the blue side is 30km, but this is too big for the width of the middle rectangle. • But if the bottom section of that blue line is 12km, then the width of the middle rectangle must be… ?

  7. Now you know the length and width of the middle rectangle. • Multiply to get the area. ?

  8. Use the same strategy to find the dimensions of the top rectangle. • Once you have the areas of all three sections, add them together.

  9. Hope this helps!
