  1. UNIVERSITY OF BENIN BENIN CITY, NIGERIAIN COLLABORATION WITHGENERIC TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE (UK) Ltd, LONDONADMISSION INTO DIPLOMA PROGRAMME IN MARITIME STUDIES, INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

  2. The University of Benin, Benin City, in a collaborative arrangement with Generic Technology College (UK) Ltd (GTC), London has established a center for Maritime Studies, Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This Centre which is the first of its kind to be mounted in a Nigerian University, shall run a two-year Diploma in Maritime Studies, Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

  3. The course have adequate professional and academic content, to produce manpower for the promotion of staff proficiency, capacity building and performance in the Sea Ports, Shipping, Oil and ICT sectors of the economy for middle and top management positions.

  4. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the two-year Diploma in Maritime Studies, Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

  5. COURSE BENEFITS raduates from the Centre shall acquire both academic and practical knowledge to be employed directly into Sea Ports, Shipping, Oil, Custom Services, and other Agencies in maritime and ICT industries.

  6. The Diploma in Maritime Studies and ICTis recognized as a direct entry qualification into 200 level for all Engineering programmes and related disciplines in the sciences of the University of Benin and similar institutions in the country.Graduates of the Diploma in Maritime Studies and ICT are also qualified for direct entry into Universities/colleges in the United kingdom to which Generic Technology College (UK) Ltd is affiliated.

  7. Programme would also serve ascapacity building for the academic and professional enhancement of persons with innate maritime culture and traditions such as persons of the Niger Delta of Nigeria, etc, preparatory for middle and high level responsibilities in Maritime and related industries, as well as provide training in modern methods of Conflict Resolution.Graduates of this programme with outstanding performance could be sponsored for further studies in the United kingdom

  8. LECTURE PERIODS Lectures take place from Monday to Friday between the hours of 2.00 and 6.00pm. Practical (laboratory and workshop practice) will however be scheduled between the hours of 9.00am to12.00 noon or/and Saturdays as may be appropriate.

  9. INDUSTRAL TRAINING Students must undertake and pass a three-month industrial training period between the first and second years

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • Credit in Mathematics with a pass in English Language and credit in three other subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Biology/Agricultural Science, Economics and Geography.) at GCE/WASE/SSCE/NABTEB/NECOCity and Guilds (Part 1) in any area of EngineeringA qualification equivalent to any of the above.

  11. Mature candidates with a minimum of pass in mathematics and credit in three other subjects as specified above at GCE/WAEC/SSCE/NABTEB/NECO with not less than five years of cognate experience in industry

  13. ENTRANCE EXAMINATION • All candidates shall sit for an entrance examination which shall take place on the at the Faculty of Engineering, Ugbowo Campus, University of Benin, Benin City. Candidates who have distinction in Physics and Mathematics or have higher qualifications may be exempted from the entrance examination.
