  1. What is it? Yellow Journalism

  2. Definition: Yellow Journalism is: • exploiting, distorting, or over-exaggerating the truth. • can be exaggerations of news events, celebrities' lives, sports, or scandal. • trying to make things bigger and more exciting than they really are to get people to buy newspapers. • eye-catching font, size, colors, and pictures.

  3. Some Examples: Notice the eye-catching sizes, fonts, and choice of words. Colors weren’t printed yet...sorry. The “$50,000 Reward” for whoever knew who sunk the Maine is very noticeable since it is repeated so many times and put in many different places. This will quickly draw the eye of the public and cause more newspapers to be bought.

  4. Political Cartoon A political cartoon about Yellow Journalism. What do you think it means?

  5. Yellow Journalism Today - Today, in modern times, tabloids have been a primary source of Yellow Journalism. - As you may have noticed, when you are checking out in a grocery store, you see headlines with big, colorful letters telling the latest scandalous, gossip about your favorite star that immediately attract your attention. You really want to know what’s going on in their lives, so you quickly put the magazine in your basket and buy it. That is an example of Yellow Journalism.

  6. The End! thanks for watching! This short but informative slideshow was made, designed, and edited by Rachel Nutt . 8)
