What is EUREKA ? • EUREKA is a public network supporting R&D-performing businesses • EUREKA anniversary 25 yearsand Czech Republic 15 years • EUREKA is: • Intergovernmental initiative (39 Members and European Commission) • Using national public and private funding • Market-oriented (projects must result in a marketable product, process or service) • Bottom-up (the consortium decides on the project aim; no thematic restriction) Since 1985, 26 billion euro of public-private investment has been mobilised to support some 3,100 EUREKA projects

  6. What is EUREKA ? EUREKA supports three types of projects Cluster projects EURIPIDES, ITEA2, CATRENE, EUROGIA, ACQUENAU Long-term, strategically-significant initiatives Large number of participants, many from Europe’s major companies Develop generic technologies of key importance to European competitiveness Individual projects Small, shorter-term projects Involve participants from at least two member countries Result in a product, process or service with a significant advance in their sector Eurostars projects Small, short-term projects, involving participants from at least two member countries Consortium leader is an SME-performing R&D Programmed jointly with the European Commission

Czech Participation in EUREKA Project co-funding EUREKA funding is targeted co-financing from governmental budget for international R&D cooperation • All types of organisations: SMEs, Large companies, Universities and Research institutes (incl. Academy of Sciences) • Eureka CZ (LF) from VES 2011 • Support covered up to 50 % of relevant budget of involving Czech participant(s) in EUREKA project • Financial limits of support: 80 000 € / 120 000 €  (2 000 000 CZK/3 000 000 CZK) per project / year

  12. The Eurostars Programme

The Eurostars Programme > Eurostars Programme is the first European funding and support Programme to be specifically dedicated to R&D performing SMEs It’s a multi-annual joint programme (2007-2013), which combines: • National R&D programmes from 32 countries (300 M€ committed) • FP7 (up to 100 M€ committed) • EUREKA Secretariat (25 years of experience in national R&D programmes) First call for proposals: 8 February 2008 Second call for proposals: 21 November 2008 Third call for proposals: 24 September 2009 Fours call for proposals: 25 February 2010 Fifth call for proposals: 30 September 2010

  16. R&D-performing SME Existing and start-up companies > EU definition for SME applies Eurostars criteria R&D SME • 10% of full-time equivalent dedicated to R&D or • 10% of turnover dedicated to R&D

What is a Eurostars project? • No restriction on thematic area (bottom up) • Project duration up to 3 years • Market introduction is foreseen within 2 years after project completion • The R&D-performing SMEisleader of project • other project participants: SMEs, large companies, research institutes, universities • At least two participants from Eurostars participating countries • The R&D performing SMEs are undertaking at least 50% of total R&D costs • Well balanced partnership (no country responsible for more than 75% of the project costs) • The leading SME performs the core research……and gets to exploit the results

  18. What is a Eurostars project? Project co-funding • Support covered 50 % of relevant budget of involving Czech participant(s) in EUREKA project • 10% bonus available when Czech participant is project leader • Financial limits of support: 160 000 €  (4 000 000 CZK) per project/year
