  3. Systole • Contraction phase of the heartbeat

  7. jaundice • Yellow skin

  8. Pupil • Black center of the eye….crucial part of a neurological exam

  9. Dilated • Means pupils are large

  10. Constricted • Means pupils are narrow

  11. anisocoria • Means that pupils are not equal on both sides

  12. reactivity • How quickly the pupils respond to light

  13. Pulse Oximeter • Tool for determining how effectively a patient is breathing

  14. PERRLA • Pupils Equal Round Reactive to Light and Accommodation

  15. Symptom • What the patient feels

  16. Sign • Observable, objective indicators of a disease or condition

  17. Power Lift • Lifting a heavy object using mainly the legs instead of the back…also called the squat lift

  18. Clothing Drag • Used to move a patient….grasp the clothing at the collar and pull the patient

  19. Arm Drag • While in a standing position, your arms are under the patient’s arms and you drag them in the desired direction

  20. Blanket Drag • Patient is in a logroll position on top of a blanket…..the blanket is used for the means of dragging the patient

  21. Firefighter’s Drag • Patients wrists are tied using a cravat, or triangle bandage, and their arms are placed around your neck, while you crawl to the desired location
