  1. Article 7 Technical Element Recognition

  2. All Apparatus • Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance elements -Piked < 90 º hip angle in salto and dance elements • In Double Salto-dismount UB or Vault a stretched body position must be maintained for a minimum of 360 º BA salto. • FX: In double saltos a stretched body position must be maintained in the 1st salto and min. 3/4 of the second salto.

  3. Stretch Position Requirements stated in the article 7.1 is a guideline for ideal performance of the element. Nevertheless recognition of body position in saltos and flight elements (UB) occurs when the body is in inverted position.

  4. Landing from Saltos with twists Twist must be completed exactly or the Lower DV will be recognized • As dismounts from UB & BB • During the exercise on BB & FX • Vault landings

  5. Completion of twists/turns • The placement of the front hand (on back handsprings with turns) or foot is decisive when awarding the difficult value.

  6. Falls on Landing • With landing feet first – the DV is awarded • Without landing feet first – No DV is awarded

  7. Uneven Bars Technique

  8. Cast to Handstand – handstand position is considered reached when all body parts arrive within 10 ° of vertical • D Panel If completed: within 10 º of vertical – credit DV >10 º - No DV • E Panel • >10°-30° = No deduction • >30°- 45° = - 0.10 • >45° = - 0.30

  9. Circle elements with or without turns to Handstand & Flight elements from HB to LB • Swings – circle elements with turns that do not reach the 10 º required and continue movement after turn completion in opposite direction. • Circle Elements without turn and flight elements that do not reach the 10 º required • Note: Circle element without turn: If at least one body part completed below horizontal = another element from Code

  10. Swing Principle • Swing principle can be applied to any element with turn • required to reach handstand but failed more than • 10° before handstand. • For swing elements with 1/2 turn all body parts must • reach at least horizontal to receive DV, otherwise • No DV will be credited and will be • considered as Empty swing. i.e. Giant ½ turn

  11. Circle elements with or without turns to Handstand & Flight elements from HB to LB Elements that are required to reach handstand but do not reach the 10° required are devalued D Panel If completed within 10° - Credit DV > 10° – Credit 1 DV lower E Panel 10° – 30° – 0.10 >30º- 45º – 0.30 > 45° – 0.50

  12. On HB, Swing fwd. with ½ and flight to hstd on LB; and Swing bwd- straddle flight bwd over LB to hstd on LB -If element is not finished within 10° before vertical (inside the bars), credit 1 DV lower only when gymnast is able to perform half turn and continue to the next element/glide kip. -If element is NOT finished within 10° before vertical (inside the bars) and after support on the LB gymnast falls, NO DV will be credited. -If element IS finished within 10° before vertical (inside the bars) and after support on the LB gymnast falls, DV will be credited.

  13. On HB, Swing fwd. with ½ and flight to hstd on LB; and Swing bwd- straddle flight bwd over LB to hstd on LB If gymnast grabs the LB but falls after passing the LB (outside the bars), DV still will be credited even though she was not able to continue to the next element/glide kip. Follow principle 7.4.3 of the Code: Circle elements without turn and Flight elements from HB to Handstand on LB.

  14. Circle elements with turn completed to HSTD • D - Panel • If completed within 10º either side or turn occurs after handstand – credit DV • E - Panel • > 10º – 30º - 0.10 • > 30º – 45º - 0.30 • > 45 º - 0.50

  15. Balance Beam and Floor Technique

  16. Balance Beam and Floor ExerciseTurn recognition in dance elements • The turn must be completed exactly or the Lower DV will be recognized. • In addition to the foot placement the position of the hip and shoulders should be taken into consideration.

  17. Turns on One Leg • Turns on One Leg are in increments of: • 180° for BB • 360° for FX

  18. For under turning: • 3/1 turn becomes 2/1 turn (FX) • 2/1 turn becomes 11/2 turn (BB)

  19. Turn Considerations: • Must be performed on the toes. • Have a fixed and well defined shape throughout the turn. • The support leg whether stretched or bent does not change the value of the difficulty. • Degree of rotation is determined once the heel and/or free leg drops. (turn is considered finished)

  20. TURNS ON ONE LEG • For turns on 1 leg requiring the free leg to be at a specific position, the position must be maintained throughout the turn. • If leg is not in prescribed position - credit one DV lower (if there is no element in the Code) • When a gymnast does not maintain her free leg in the specific position from the beginning to the end of the turn, but completes the turn on the support leg, then no deduction for precision will be applied.

  21. Jumps, leaps, hops with turns(Increments of 180º for BB and FX) • If landing on 2 feet - the placement of the front foot is decisive when awarding the difficulty value. • If landing on 1 foot - the position of the hip and shoulders are decisive. • Dance elements devalued (no DV) due to a technical failure may still be considered beautiful choreography without deduction, provided the body line is pleasing. However, if the body line is not good or there are other execution or technical errors, deductions should be applied. • Various techniques of jump turns are permitted including piking, tucking or straddling the legs in the beginning, middle or end of the turn.

  22. Definitions: • Leaps: take off from 1 foot to land on other or 2 feet • Hops: take off from 1 foot and land on the same foot or 2 feet • Jumps: take off from 2 feet and land on 1 or 2 feet

  23. Leaps, Jumps, Hops, Turns and Acro elements with 180° Leg Separation (Split) • For missing degrees of leg separation (insufficient split) and or incorrect position of legs: Insufficient Split • 0° - 20° deduct 0.10 • > 20° - 45° deduct 0.30 • > 45° credit another element from the COP or no DV

  24. Incorrect Leg Position Legs not parallel to floor 0.10

  25. Specific Requirements of Selected Dance • Split Leap with Leg Change Requirement: free leg swing min. 45 °, 180° split of legs D- Panel -If free leg swings less than 45° or is bent then credit Split Leap.

  26. Specific Requirements of Selected Dance • Requirement: Must show cross split position • D- Panel • -If free leg swings less than 45° or is bent then credit – split leap with 1/2 turn (180°) • - If Side Split is shown – credit side leap with leg change (Johnson) Split Leap with Leg Change and 1/2 turn (180°)

  27. Ring Principles • The shape of the body is a “ring” • Feet close to the head (almost touching the head) • Upper body arch and release of the head • 180° split of legs • Front leg at horizontal (except Sissone type jumps) (Note: up to 10 ° allowance below horizontal)

  28. Ring leap/Change Leg Ring leap • D -Panel • Back foot below shoulder height and/or front leg below horizontal (> than 10°) - credit one DV lower • No arch and/or release of head – credit split leap or split leap with leg change • E - Panel - Insufficient Arch position – 0.10 - Foot of back leg to shoulder height – 0.10 • Front leg is below horizontal (> 10°) – 0.10 Note: Back Leg Bent or Straight is the same element

  29. Sheep Jump • Requirement: • It must be a circle shape, with head release, upper back arch and feet almost touching the head (open hips). • F.I.G. WTC • Worlds 2010 • E - Panel • - Insufficient Arch position – 0.10 • Leg or knee separation - 0.10/0.30

  30. YANG BO Requirement: At least over split with front leg at horizontal • D - Panel - No over split but both legs at horizontal - credit 1 DV lower - Over split but front leg > 10° below horizontal = Ring Jump - No arch and/or release of head = Split jump or Sissone (if front leg below horizontal) - No arch and/or release of head & no split (missing more than 45°) – No DV • E - Panel - Insufficient Arch position – 0.10 - Over split, but front leg below horizontal (> 10°) –0.10

  31. Tuck Jump with/without turn • Requirement: hip & knee angle at 45° • D - Panel • > 135° hip angle – No DV • E - Panel • 90° hip angle – 0.10 • > 90° - 135° hip angle – 0.30 • If no DV is credited, deductions still should be applied: • -0.30 knees below horizontal

  32. Wolf Jump with/without turn • Requirement: hip angle at 45°, knees together • D - Panel • > 135° hip angle – No DV • E - Panel • 90° hip angle – 0.10 • > 90° - 135° hip angle - 0.30 • If no DV is credited, deductions still should be applied: • -0.30 Extended leg below horizontal

  33. Cat Leap with/without turn • Requirement: Evaluate the lowest knee position • D - Panel • > 135° hip angle – No DV • If no DV is credited, deductions still should be applied: -0.30 knees below horizontal • - Lack of alternation – credit Tuck jump -0.10/0.30 if legs at horizontal or below • E - Panel • 90° hip angle – 0.10 • > 90° - 135° hip angle – 0.30

  34. Straddle Pike Jump with/without turn • Both legs above horizontal – no deduction • D - Panel • > 135° hip angle – No DV • E - Panel • 90° hip angle – 0.10 • > 90° - 135° hip angle – 0.30 • If no DV is credited, deductions still should be applied: • -0.30 knees below horizontal

  35. Switch Split Leap with 1/1 turn • When free leg is bent becomes Split Leap 1/1 turn • May deduct for insufficient split. • Deduct for bent free leg. • When free leg is bent and only 1/2 turn is completed becomes Split Leap ½ turn • May deduct for insufficient split and precision. • Deduct for bent free leg.

  36. Johnson Leap with ½ Turn • If a gymnast does not complete ½ turn and her free leg swing is less than 45º or is bent – to consider as side split leap (1.101). The gymnast may perform Johnson with ½ turn again in the same exercise and receive DV (if performed correctly). • If a gymnast completes ½ turn, but her free leg swing is less than 45º or is bent – to credit 1 DV lower (there is no side split leap with ½ turn in the COP). If the gymnast repeats Johnson with ½ turn again in the same exercise she would not receive DV (repetition of the same element).

  37. NOTE • Body Posture: Deductions for body posture faults (form breaks) in body-torso, arms-elbows, legs-knees must be taken in addition to penalties assessed for amplitude.
