The well-known monk Xuan Zang was the first abbot of the temple. In 652 during the region of Emperor Gaozong, Li Zhi, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built to keep the scriptures, Buddha's statues and relics brought back by Master Xuan Zang from India. Terracotta Warriors tour: The Qin Terracotta Warriors were molded in realistic touches. The figures prove striking personality and distinct feature of the age. The vivid gestures and expressions of soldiers and smooth lines indicate the peak of clay figurine making. The cast of these figures successfully expresses lively characters in different age and personalities. Their status can be easily distinguished by their appearance. For example, the figure that wears head-dress and has a battle robe on, with the head held high and in an iron constitution, must be the general who had amazing wisdom and courage. 2. Shaanxi History Museum: The construction of Shaanxi History Museum represents the highest level of museums in the 1990s of China. It was said to be on a par with world's first class museums in consideration of the building, layout and function. Former President Chirac, who made a visit to the museum as the mayor of Paris, sang high praise over the beautiful museum for its dignified architectural style, rich exhibits, fancy masterpieces and profound history behind it. To some extent, it is definitely the milestone of the modernization of Chinese museums. Ancient City Walls: The majestic circumvallation is the most spectacular place of interest in Xian. The city wall has a history of 1,400 years since the Sui and Tang dynasties. In the long history, its gates changed their names for many times, which also reflect the old city's ups and downs. The South Gate was best restored based on its prototype first constructed in 582 of the Sui Dynasty, which is also the oldest gate of the City Wall. Vehicles and passersby get in and out through annex gates on its west and east sides and it has become an important cultural relic. Great Mosque: After renovations and expansions in the past hundreds of year, the present Great Mosque is a building complex of Ming and Qing style, although its construction first started about 1,200 year ago. It consists of four courtyards. The Honored Prayer Hall, Worship Hall, Xingxin Tower and Phoenix Pavilion make up the main structure of the mosque. It treasures the hand-written copy of Koran of the Qing Dynasty, a picture depicting the Islamic holy city of Makkah and some twenty significant steles with both Arabic and Chinese inscriptions.
