  1. How Working Professionals Can Prepare for IAS? The civil service exams are conducted every year by the UPSC. The age limit is generous and several working people and individuals apply for IAS exams. It is highly difficult to manage time and health while preparing for the IAS exams and focus on their regular 9 hours job. The working candidates may feel the entire IAS preparation task strenuous and challenging. There would be constraints of responsibilities, focus, energy, resources and time. The candidates who are preparing on full-time basis do not face such constraints. The candidates working full time should put extra effort to successfully qualify in the civil service exam. Though there are several challenges, working professionals still continue to apply and clear the IAS exam. They need to show dedication and have a strategy to complete the exam. Strategy to Be Used to Clear the Civil Service Exam The Hindu: It is important to read daily newspaper. It is recommended to read the best newspaper like The Hindu if you are preparing for the CSE. Ensure to skip three-page stories you see in TOI that are glitzy and serves as the major selling point. Books: There is no need to read a lot of books. Pick quality books as per your main topic. It should cover all the basic concepts. If you read the standard books, you do not have to waste time reading other books. It also guides as a teacher throughout your exam and course period.

  2. Question papers: Ensure to collect previous year exam question papers. You need to answer the questions and get yourself familiar with the question types. When you read and solve previous year paper, you can get some confidence in attending the exam. You would also know the status of your preparation. General awareness: It is best to have a yearbook or guidebook that is suitable for the purpose of your study. Current affairs: When you read the daily paper, you would automatically know the current affairs thoroughly. It is best to write important notes in a book. General science: It covers a large portion. You have to remain thorough with various general science topics through a standard guidebook. History: You need to focus entirely on freedom movement and modern history. You should also give importance to Ancient India. It is best to give a glance through the medieval history that remains helpful for the preparation. General studies: You have to cover all the subject that you have in hand. It is recommended to take previous year question papers and cover that particular subjects. Notes: It is highly beneficial to read and learn from the notes. They are useful and important in last minute preparations.

  3. Geography: You need to cover maps related questions and physical geography. It is good to purchase an Atlas and get prepared with the maps. IAS Study Method for Working Professionals The article has prepared especially for working professionals who have approached for IAS exams. General Study Plan:  You need to assign at least 4 to 5 hours every day for your IAS preparation. You can divide into shift and complete latest study materials. If you are finding hard to study 4 to 5 hours within a single stretch, you can divide your timings and complete the assigned part. You can wake up early in the morning, cover certain parts and keep the rest to cover during the night. The gap between mains and prelims is just 120 days. You have to take a fast approach to complete the entire IAS Syllabus. First shift:  During the first shift, you need to study mainly the Standard Books and NCERT that has been prescribed. It is best to allot 2 hours for the first shift. It is not recommended to learn two books simultaneously. You can finish one by one. Most people may ask which to study first. Though there is a wide range of books to study, you can cover the important books that occupy the majority of syllabus. Second shift:  You should allot 2 hours for the second shift. It is mainly dedicated to passing the prelims. It will cover major portions of syllabus needed to attend prelims. You can spend enough time reading newspaper and take notes during the second shift. The notes help for attending both the prelims and mains. When you read newspaper, your knowledge would be broad.

  4. Third shift:  You need to allot just 1 hour for the third shift. You have to remain dedicated to the optional subjects you have selected. If you are not able to spend 5 hours a day apart from working for your IAS preparation, you have to manage in other way and cover the entire study portion at your convenience. You can study during the office breaks and or spend 45 minutes to study the optional subject whenever you get free time. Sunday shift:  Sunday is the most precious day for revising and learning. If you are running out of time, you need to spend about 10 -2 hours for preparation. You should also practice writing answers side by side. You should take online mock test. The sunday preparation should focus on mains. The mains questions and prelims questions are completely different and you have to be prepared to write answers accordingly. Mistakes to avoid Use internet for help and do not get distracted: It is best to use the smartphone with internet connection to get all the information you require for preparation. Ensure that you do not get distracted. You have to stick to your study job. Do not waste time or indulge in other things on the internet.

  5. Do not avoid sleep: If you reduce sleeping hours, it can affect your performance and efficiency. It is best to sleep for about 8-9 hours a day. If you do not sleep well, then it will affect your body functions. Moreover, your brain would stop to work to its full capacity. Try to maintain standard hours of sleep.
