Lessons • This was a professional crew from a major operator from a first world state.. • But they still got it badly wrong..WHY? • Urgent tone of ATC? • Distraction? • High flight deck noise? • High background luminance? • Inadequate display? • TRAINING IS #1 PRIORITY… • ESPECIALLY WITH PHASE II DUE JAN 05

  5. Summary • Lack of training of non JAR OPS 1 crew threatens effectiveness of ACAS phase II extension • At least leaflet 11 should be posted on web site (though it isn’t ideal • Consider innovative methods • Eg promote MS Flight Sim plug in?
