  3. Goals Build positive relationships with students and families (Characteristic #3 of our Culturally Responsive Teaching model) through a focus on family outreach and engagement. Increase collaboration to include creation of partnerships with area organizations.

Objectives Engage Every Student Volunteer Program - (includes providing guidance to schools on relevant School Board policies KK, KN, KNA) Agnor-Hurt Knitting Group (parents and students) Support Agnor-Hurt Equity Team CRT/PD transfer to Practice “Parental Involvement” policy review by the Family Involvement Team Scottsville Design Engineering Camp Improve Opportunity & Achievement Southwood community outreach and mentoring leaders Summer Camp collaboration opportunities Create & Expand Partnerships Community Partners: Walmart, Wild Rock, State Farm, Book Baskets, et al Protocol for safeguarding students who participate in community internships/job shadowing Summer Camp Pilot with Destination Imagination 2016/2017 Volunteer hours 45,513 volunteer hours

Community Connections Community ConversationsOngoing initiative to collaborate with families and the community to increase student participation in summer opportunities such as maker engineering camps, Coder Dojo, Destination Imagination, robotics, etc. Family Involvement TeamCollaboration between Community Engagement, Federal Programs, ESOL, the SEAD Team, Title I, Bright Stars, and Social Services; team creates toolkits to support successful implementation of the Parental Involvement School Board Policy IGBC(this is the final draft) by our practitioners. Virginia Latino Advisory BoardAdvises the Governor on issues of Latino interest, specifically focused on equity. We have supported cultural competency training and language access at all levels of state government. Connecting ACPS objectives to a state conversation. VLAB 2017 report Trauma Informed Community Network (TICN)Executive committee looking into grant opportunities to provide professional development training to teachers regarding the effects of trauma on students’ ability to learn. This connects directly to the SEAD Team initiative.

  7. Year-Long Goals Support and track the application of Culturally Responsive Teaching professional development in routine classroom practices. Provide resources and strategies to build the capacity of Diversity Resource Teachers (DRTs) to lead Equity Teams within their school communities with a focus on Culturally Responsive Teaching.

Engage Every Student Equity Education Specialists: Establish routine, individual meetings with DRTs to track and support the impact of professional development on student engagement and achievement. Support CRT Certification applicants to document and reflect on student engagement and achievement. Collaborate with the STEP (Short-Term Education Program) Program pilot to ensure educational access for suspended students and to reduce racial disproportionality in suspension rates.

Improve Opportunity & Achievement Equity Education Specialists: Lead the Diversity Resource Planning Team to organize monthly professional development for DRTs and Equity Teams centered around our year-long goals. Engage inter-department collaboration (ICs, LEADs) to build collective efficacy around opportunity and achievement. Support county initiatives related to opportunity and achievement, such as Project Edge (Equity and Diversity in Gifted Education). Provide public platforms for awareness of OCE efforts and successes, such as the yearly Diversity Conference.

Create & Expand Partnerships Equity Education Specialists: Cultivate new partnerships with UVA that support focused study of and feedback on the implementation of the division’s Culturally Responsive Teaching model, as well as the application of researched methods in classroom practice. Focus efforts to study and implement best practices around Family and Community Partnerships across schools. Establish relationships and ongoing communications with national leaders in equity work, such as Zaretta Hammond and Bryan Hotchkins.

Optimize Resources Equity Education Specialists: Maximize the efficient implementation of current Community Engagement structures and initiatives, including the Diversity Resource Team, the DRT Planning Team, the ACPS Culturally Responsive Teaching certification model, and school-based Equity Teams. Expand existing structures and capitalize on current resources, such as the expansion of Culturally Responsive Certification to administrators and instructional coaches. Close the feedback loop around PD provided by the OCE by seeking feedback from and application support for participants in order to inform future PD sessions.

  14. EDEP Program Goals Recruit and retain a diverse, highly-qualified facilitator and teaching staff. Review and revise online registration and payment processes.

  15. EDEP Objectives Engage Every Student Expand and enhance enrichment offerings with a focus on STEAM. Improve Opportunity & Achievement Decrease waiting lists. Create and Expand Partnerships Partner with schools in Rajasthan, India. Optimize Resources Implement additional hiring strategies, including a retention bonus and shift differential. Build capacity for advancement (of current staff) within the program. Collaborate with LEAD to review and revise online registration and payment options.

Open Doors Community Education www.opendoors1.org Self-sustaining program Catalog notifies the public of courses offered through Community Education, CATEC, and Albemarle Parks & Recreation Courses offered in the evenings or on weekends for varying lengths from a single session to eight weekly sessions Locations vary, but many courses are held at Albemarle High School

  19. Open Doors Program Goals Provide opportunities for community members and students to embrace Lifelong Learning. Demonstrate the value of our school facilities to residents without school-aged children.
