  1.   FREQUENTLY  ASKED  QUESTIONS   Stem  Cell  Therapy     Who  is  Texas  Cell  Institute?   Texas  Cell  Institute  is  a  state-‐of-‐the  art,  cutting  edge  regenerative  medicine   practice  which  has  a  mission  is  to:   1.) To  Heal  Musculoskeletal  Injury  at  the  Cellular  Level.   2.) To  Decrease  the  Need  for  Narcotics  and  Invasive  Surgery  for   Musculoskeletal  Injury.   3.) To  Preserve  Arthritic  Joints  for  Long  Term  Health.   4.) To  Promote  Overall  Health  &  Wellness.     A  partnership  between  Drs.  Amit  Mirchandani  &  Marius  Meintjes  combined  with  the   state  of  the  art,  FDA-‐approved,  High-‐complexity  laboratory  has  culminated  in  the   Texas  Cell  Institute.  At  Texas  Cell  Institute,  we  offer  our  patients  an  alternative  non-‐ narcotic,  non-‐surgical  approach  to  musculoskeletal  injuries  utilizing  cell  therapy   techniques  to  enhance  healing.     What  is  Regenerative  Medicine?   Regenerative  Medicine  is  the  practice  of  cutting-‐edge,  minimally  invasive   therapies  to  help  your  body  definitively  heal  from  acute  and  chronic  injuries.   Injuries  and  aging  joints  can  result  in  persistent,  painful  symptoms  that  are   non-‐responsive  to  traditional  medical  treatments.  There  is  a  growing  body  of   evidence  in  favor  of  Regenerative  Medicine  as  a  potentially  more  superior   form  of  treatment  through  the  use  of  biologics,  such  as  platelet  rich  plasma   (PRP)  and  Stem  Cell  therapy,  to  effectively  heal  and  regenerate  non-‐healing,   injured  tissue.  These  promising  treatments  have  bridged  the  gap  between   non-‐responsive  conservative  treatments  and  potentially  risky  invasive   surgery.   What  are  Stem  Cells?     Stem  cells  are  cells  in  the  body  that  are  capable  of  (a)  self-‐renewal  and  (b)   differentiation.  Mesenchymal  stem  cells  are  specific  types  of  stem  cells  and  are   multi-‐potent.  In  other  words,  they  have  the  ability  to  differentiate  into  more   than  one  type  of  cell.  At  Texas  Cell  Institute,  mesenchymal  cells,  which  are   found  in  the  Bone  Marrow  or  Fat)  are  the  cells  utilized  in  helping  repair,

  2. regenerate,  and  heal  damaged  tissue.    It  is  important  to  know  that   mesenchymal  stem  cells  are  different  than  embryonic  stem  cells,  which  are   NOT  used  by  Texas  Cell  Institute.       What  is  Bone  Marrow  Aspirate  Concentrate?   Bone  Marrow  Aspirate  Concentrate  (BMAC)  is  an  advanced,  cutting  edge,   promising  treatment  for  moderate  to  severe  osteoarthritis  and  other   musculoskeletal  injuries.  Bone  Marrow  houses  a  milieu  of  cells,  including   those  that  are  undifferentiated  and  have  regenerative  capacity.  BMAC  is   obtained  by  accessing  the  posterior  portion  of  the  hip  under  X-‐ray  guidance.   Patients  are  offered  light  sedation  and  local  anesthetic  for  this  procedure.     What  are  Adipose  Derived  Stem  Cells?   Adipose  Derived  Stem  Cells  (ADSC)    is  an  advanced,  cutting  edge,  promising   treatment  for  moderate  to  severe  osteoarthritis  and  other  musculoskeletal   injuries.  A  mini-‐lipoaspiration  is  done  to  obtain  the  fat.  A  small  cannula  is   inserted  into  your  abdomen  or  flank.  The  area  is  then  numbed.  Thereafter,   using  negative  pressure,  fat  is  aspirated  and  removed  from  your  body  for   further  processing  in  our  laboratory  prior  to  precise  re-‐injection  at  your  area   of  injury.  Patients  are  offered  light  sedation  and  local  anesthetic  for  this   procedure.     How  do  Stem  Cells  work?   Stem  cells  are  unique  and  powerful  cells  in  your  body  because  they  have  the   ability  to  generate  new  cells  and  replace  old  dying  and  damaged  cells.  This   happens  through  a  process  that  involves  cell  signaling  and  differentiation.   Once  an  adult  stem  cell  has  detected  cell  death,  it  begins  the  process  of   replacing  that  cell  by  first  replicating  itself  and  then  specializing  into  the  exact   type  of  cell  that  died.       How  are  Stem  Cells  delivered  to  the  Injured  Area?   Stem  Cell  delivery  is  generally  an  extremely  safe  procedure  as  we  utilize  your   body’s  own  cells.  At  Texas  Cell  Institute,  we  also  offer  anesthesia  for  your   comfort  and  do  all  of  our  procedures  in  a  fully  certified  surgical  suite  under   sterile  conditions  to  minimize  the  risk  of  infection.  A  MEDICAL  DOCTOR   always  does  your  injection  and  we  also  always  use  DIRECT  image  guidance  for   both  accurate  needle  placement  of  cells  as  well  as  to  minimize  risk  for  injuring   nerves  and  blood  vessels.       Am  I  a  good  candidate  for  Stem  Cell  therapy?   If  you  have  a  musculoskeletal  injury  that  has  not  healed  on  its  own  and  are   suffering  from  pain  that  is  limiting  your  activity,  we  would  be  happy  to   evaluate  you  for  cellular  treatment.  All  consultations  are  done  with  a  Medical   Doctor,  who  will  do  an  extensive  review  of  your  medical  history,  physical   examination  and  diagnostic  ultrasound  evaluation.  Even  if  you  are  not  a  good

  3. candidate  for  Stem  Cell  therapy,  you  will  be  given  alternatives  to  help  you   heal.     Is  Stem  Cell  therapy  Safe?   The  cells  we  utilize  are  your  own  body’s  cells,  which  means  they  are   autologous.  Thus,  there  is  NO  risk  of  your  body  rejecting  these  cells  or  forming   an  allergic  response.         Why  should  Texas  Cell  Institute  be  your  choice  for  Stem  Cell   Therapy?   Although  many  facilities  offer  Stem  Cell  therapy,  at  Texas  Cell  Institute,  your   experience  and  quality  will  undoubtedly  go  unmatched.  Our  staff  is  warm  and   attentive  throughout  the  entire  process.  Your  cells  will  be  harvested  in  a  fully   accredited  surgical  center,  properly  handled  and  processed  in  a  fully  certified   FDA  laboratory  under  the  guidance  of  our  laboratory  director.  We  are  able  to   give  you  a  laboratory  analysis  of  your  cells  under  the  microscope  prior  to   injection.  Furthermore,  your  cells  will  be  re-‐injected  precisely,  under  direct   image  guidance  by  a  board  certified  medical  doctor.  These  are  critically   important  factors  when  you  choose  where  you  seek  treatment  to  optimize   your  potential  to  heal.       To  speak  with  a  friendly  Texas  Cell  Institute  representative  to  schedule  your   appointment,  please  call  972.668.9612.  For  more  information,  please  also   visit  us  at  www.texascellinstitute.com.
