Curiosity happens when the desire to learn outstrips the need for certainty. Curiosity provokes risk. It killed the cat, remember? But, excitement about the anticipation of new knowledge becomes palpable in a group brave enough to risk being curious.   8. PLC Culture Avoiding the Hemlock Response “ We all know the reward Socrates got for helping people learn – he was forced to drink the poison hemlock. If you want to avoid modern-day hemlock, remember learning takes time. If you push too quickly or too forcefully, you might stimulate a seek-and-destroy response. The exhilaration of a real PLC is such a high that, over time, the group will embrace it themselves.   9. Since people aren’t cattle, what do we do? “ People are not cattle. While they may go along a group process cattle chute to some prefab corral, the minute the so-called collaboration is over, they walk to the gate, let themselves out, and go right back to the patch of pasture they prefer.
