  2. History Kathryn was born in San Francisco, California at 27 November 1951. She spent two years at the San Francisco Art Institute. At 20, she won a scholarship to the Whitney Museum's Independent Study Program. Afterward she earned a scholarship to study film at Columbia University School of Arts, graduating in 1979. She was also a member of the British avantgarde cultural group, Art and Language. Kathryn Bigelow has been challenging stereotypes and conventions both on screen and off. She one of the first major woman director who has directed big blockbuster movies as much as her male counterparts. Less chick flicks and more action and thriller films that adults audience enjoys. Over two decade she finally won academy award for hit film Hurt Locker(2008) as she won best director, first ever by a female director.

She is a reluctant participant in extreme duress applied to the detainees, but believes that the truth may only be obtained through such tactics. For several years, she is single-minded in her pursuit of leads to uncover the whereabouts of Al Qaeda's leader, Osama Bin Laden. Finally, in 2011, it appears that her work will pay off, and a U.S. Navy SEAL team is sent to kill or capture Bin Laden.
