Wingate Road Runners Newsflash KOPKRAPPER 2014 TENT RACES AND CHAMPIONSHIPS 25 January – Akasia 3-in-1 (42.2km, 21.1km, 10km) 1 February – McCarthy (21.1km, 10km) 8 February – Bronkhorstspruit (32km, 10km) 23 February – Deloitte (42.2km, 21.1km, 10km) 15 March – Om die Dam 29 March – Denel (21.1km, 10km) 12 April – Loskop (Weekend Away) Easter Weekend – Club Run 1 May – Wally Hayward (42.2km, 21.1km, 10km) Club Championships 42km: You can run any marathon between 1 January and 30 September and we will use your best time. If you ran a marathon where the results are not available on the Race Results website, it is your responsibility to let us know of your time. 2014 MEMBERS INFO AND REGISTRATION A very warm welcome to all our new as well as our old members!! Please remember to register online and pay. Those of you who registered and paid – you can collect your license numbers on Tuesday at the club, please bring along your proof of payment. You will notice that you only receive ONE number this year – this number should be worn IN FRONT!! Only members who registered and paid will receive our sms messages. 21km and 10km: You can run any of the tent races up to two weeks before the yearend function (date still to be confirmed) and we will use your best time over the distance to work out the championships medals. To be in line with South African Masters Athletics (SAMA) rules, championship medals will be awarded in 5 year age categories from the age of 35. On a regular basis we will update the ranking list of all three championships distances, so that you can see what your position is. Please join us and make sure that you do participate at the tent races.

  3. Wingate Road Runners Newsflash IN CLOSING WAT IS JOU STORIE (From Eric and Amanda Economon) The Festival of Running took place at Phobians Club, Pretoria between 27 Dec 2013 and 2 January 2014. Amanda Economon participated in the 6 day event. The aim was to run as many kilometers as you like around a 500m circuit. Amanda set a new national record in her age category, earned a Silver medal, finished 5th lady and 10th position overall by covering 428.34km. Eric Economon also participated in the event and due to medical reasons was allowed only to walk and covered 90km finishing second last. A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street. "But officer," the man began, "I can explain." "Just be quiet," snapped the officer. "I'm going to let you cool your heels in jail until the chief gets back." "But, officer, I just wanted to say,..." "And I said to keep quiet! You're going to jail!" A few hours later the officer looked in on his prisoner and said, "Lucky for you that the chief's at his daughter's wedding. He'll be in a good mood when he gets back." "Don't count on it," answered the fellow in the cell. "I'm the groom."
