  1. The perfect checklist to prepare your move We have all heard of someone whose move has gone horribly wrong. How not to become the next story to be told? Here is a list of reminders that could greatly help you. 3 months before Ask for at least three bids for a mover or for a truck rental. Check the insurance provided by the movers (breakage, bed bugs, etc.) Ask the owner of the next dwelling for permission to go and take steps to ensure that all your furniture comes in. Notify your employer; you may be entitled to leave with pay. Register the children at their new school or daycare.

  2. 1 month ago Make a clean of what you want to move or not. Sell or give away what is not right for you. You will be able to better estimate the volume of the truck needed. Find boxes; some grocery stores sometimes give it to people who ask for it. Start keeping your flyers and old newspapers for packaging. Book a Truck or moving straps as needed. Notify the electricity, telephone, cable, Internet, insurance companies and your bank of your new address. Register on the site of the Toronto Change of Address Service to send its contact information to several departments. Send your mail to your next home for the first 6 months by Canada Post; it will avoid relying on the kindness of the future tenant. Start eating what's in your freezer and refrigerator so you do not move too many foods. Give everything you borrowed to your neighbors. 1 week before Remove all frames and shelves and refill holes if necessary. Make your boxes by inscribing, on the side and not on the top, what they contain and in which room they will have to be deposited. Confirm the presence of charitable souls who agreed to give you a helping hand when the day comes. Plan the meals that will be served to your friends. Check if your new apartment for rent is free to begin cleaning before the move. Ask your current owner when and how he wants to collect the keys. The day before Confirm the time of the appointment with the mover and / or your friends. Dismantle all your furniture that can be. Do not forget to put the screws and small parts in a bag of Ziploc type that you will stick on the piece of furniture in order not to lose them. Gather everything you need the next day and put them at your fingertips: cleaning supplies, markers, scissors, tools, etc. Take pictures of the current condition of your furniture to check for abnormal scratches after the move. Prepare your plants by wrapping the earthen pot of a bag to avoid damage.

  3. The day of the move Put in yourself the most fragile items and what you will need immediately when rendered. Give a little broom out of respect for the next tenant. Have fun as much as possible!
