  3. Yield to win. • When your goal is to get your own point across, the first and most important move you can make is, ironically, to listen. Seek first to understand, then to be understood. You cannot be influential unless you accept influence

  4. Is basic good-will present? • If so, the start with the idea that respect is not a feeling first, but a step of obedience.

  5. vss.25-30 husbands

  6. Survey of men • Would you rather • A) Be left alone and abandoned on a desert island? • B) Be disrespected by your peers and colleagues? 75% of men chose “A”

  7. “I will love my wife after she respects me.” or to say, • “I will respect my husband after he loves me.” or • “I will only love/respect if they have earned it or deserved it”.

  8. Love is • Patient, kind • does not envy, does not boast, is not proud does not dishonour others, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs • rejoices with the truth • always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13.4-7

  9. Who goes first? • Start loving m and I’ll show you respect. If you respect me, I will be more loving. • The one who see himself or herself as the most mature goes first.

  10. God has given us marriage not to make us happy, but to make us holy.

  11. Gentlemen, do you treasure your loved one by - • Setting healthy boundaries that she needs? • Initiating prayer with her? • Placing Jesus in the middle of all things?

Meanings of “mystery” • a secret revelation made known through a special allowance of grace (Eph. 3:2-3) • the total sweep of God's purposes in Christ (Eph.1:9; 3:3, 4, 9; 6:19). • some specific truth within that wider revelation (Rom. 11:25 & 1Co.r 15:51). • The more profound truth in Genesis 2:24 is realized with Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for his bride the church.

  17. What sort of legacy or inheritance, does your marriage leave your children? The best gift you can give your children is a loving and respectful marriage.
