  2. Question About Oprah • What is Oprah best known for? She is known for being the host of TV’s series, “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

  3. Interesting Facts • When Oprah was born her parents named her, “Orpah Winfrey.” • Except on the birth certificate the doctors misspelled her name so it became,” Oprah Winfrey.” • The chairman of her production company named it, “Harpo Productions,” which is Oprah’s name spelled backwards.

  4. Oprah • Oprah Winfrey was born January 29, 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. • To the parents of Vernita and Vernon Winfrey. • Her parents were divorced so she lived in Kosciusko with her mother,Vernita.

  5. Oprah as a Child • She lived in Mississippi with her mother on a small farm. • When she lived with her mother she was treated very badly. • When she got a little older she moved in with her father, Vernon. • He was a barber and businessman.

  6. Oprah in College • In 1971 she entered the University of Tennessee State. • Then she began working for a radio and television broadcast station in Nashville.

  7. After College • After college Oprah went toTennessee and Baltimore, Maryland where she got a job on the morning show of “A.M. Chicago” in 1984. • A little bit later she made a movie called, “The Color Purple.”

  8. Her Career • In 1986, Oprah started the Oprah Winfrey Show which she talked about the life of people and all of their issues they had. • That is what started Oprah’s career.

  9. Oprah Now • Her show was the best hit! • Within a few years after the airing of her show, she became one of the richest women in the U.S. • In 2000 she started a new magazine of lifestyles called,”0.”
