Secretary for form • WikiCzar email • Sent yesterday – some still need training (after lab lecture this week)

Announcements & Info • Review syllabus objectives (see revised syllabus) • Reinforce students understanding of the design process by applying the design process to team projects. • Learn to efficiently document design work in real-time (wiki and design notebooks). • Learn to effectively summarize and communicated their team’s progress on their respective project (memos, presentations, and drawings). • Learn to effectively manage project resources (budget, project schedule, man power) • Learn to effectively manage their projects by managing to their bosses’ expectations (bosses = advisor, teaching team, and team mates). • Sources of benchmarking

  5. Sources for Benchmarking • Web • Library • Stores & Junkyards (and especially toy stores) • Go touch some hardware (you’ll get ideas) • Robotic parts  go to a toy store • Camping products  go to REI • Aircraft  go to a hobby shop • And remember, you’re never really done benchmarking…

  6. Announcements & Agenda • Lab 1 – time to complete • SolidWorks setup on 15+ computers in the Ingman lab (EMCB210) • Lab 2 page setup. Assignment to be posted today. • Presentations start next week • Everyone show up Monday • Order of presentations (see http://mech.utah.edu/senior_design/06/index.php/Main/Presentations) • Formula SAE and Solar Car – 2 presentations per group?

  7. Design Selection Guidelines • Refer to supplied excel spreadsheet • QFD guidelines • List evaluation categories • Pick category weights (1,3,9) • List items to be compared in design trade • Assign scores • See which design(s) scores best • Possibly refine QFD to top 2 or 3 designs/items

Announcements & Agenda • Peer review presentation – Marlin • Peer review grades • Give 1 copy to Dr. P – will receive check, minus… • Provide grade of your reviewing team’s grade in your next memo after you have a chance to absorb their feedback • Peer review • Groups exchange hardcopies. • Make comments on hardcopy and return to team • Turn in 1 hardcopy to Dr. P now
