  3. What is CrossFit Training? • CrossFit is core strength and conditioning program. It is a designed program to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy. The CrossFit Program was developed to enhance an individual’s capability at all physical tasks.

  4. Continued… • At CrossFit Inspire- we work exclusively with compound movements and shorter high intensity cardiovascular sessions. We’ve replaced the lateral raise with push press, the curl with pull-ups, and the leg exensionwithsquats. • Why? Because compound or functional movements and high intensity or anaerobic cardio is radically more effective at eliciting nearly any desired fitness result. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzD9BkXGJ1M

  5. Internship Experience • My experience at CrossFit Inspire was amazing. • I began my internship as if I were a new client and started with the on ramp program. Then I simply shadowed other trainers. • This helped me understand how to talk to clients and how CrossFit as workout was performed.

  6. Getting more Involved • As I gained more knowledge in my internship my supervisors expectations of me increased. • I soon was expected to run warm-ups for classes, modify workouts, and perform workouts.

  7. Other Classes Offered • CrossFit Inspire offers more than just CrossFit training. • They have hot yoga, yoga, kick boxing, strength lifting classes, On Ramp, open gym, and CrossFit training.

  8. CrossFit Classes • Monday, Wednesday, Friday – these classes usually involve an Olympic lifts followed by a WOD(workout of the day) that is strength based. • Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays – these classes involve more cardio and agility movements. • Sundays is also an intense partner WOD incorporating all of these elements.

  9. CrossFit Inspire has a very competitive atmosphere. • They do many activities that involve intense competition and it makes people work harder and have more fun.

  10. Competition at CrossFit Inspire. Four other CrossFit boxes from the Pennsylvania and Philly area attended. • Over 160 peaople competed. • Over $5,000 were raised for Breast Cancer.

  11. CrossFit is a widely spreading workout program. • In the past 7 years 20 new CrossFit boxes in the Pennsylvania area alone. • Nationally it is growing faster than ever. • CrossFit Nation offers WOD’s to the public to do on their own. • You can compare your scores with the entire nation and enter your scores on their website.

  12. CrossFit Games • One of my favorite things about CrossFit training is the competitive nature it has behind it. • There are CrossFit competitions all over the nation and winners actually make thousands of dollars as rewards.a • Nationals are held each year. People must win the qualifying local and regional competitions in order to be eligible to compete in the national competition.

  13. How to Become Certified • To become Level 1 CrossFit trainer you must go to a weekend course. During this course you will complete workouts and also coach them. At the end of the course you have a test you must pass. • There are certification you can get specializing you in certain Olympic lifts and other CrossFit lifts. • There are 2 levels of CrossFit training as well as being certified in CrossFit kids, Cardio, strength training, and WOD specializing.

  14. Impact of my Internship • Coming into my senior year I was very undecided on what I was going to be doing after graduation. • I took a chance at CrossFit Inspire knowing nothing about CrossFit training. • Now I want to possibly pursue a career in CrossFit. • I would love to hopefully compete in the Crossfit games one day. • I am also taking my Level 1 CrossFit certification test in January and I am looking forward to coaching CrossFit.
