  2. Introduction:Here is a short, funny video, illustrating why we need a new theatre.

  3. Why Do We Need This? The Nashua-Plainfield community has a great need for a theatre or auditorium. The N-P Drama Club has to work around other organizations and sports for the use of the gym presently. At the moment Nashua and Plainfield are without a movie theatre, therefore its citizens must travel outside the area to attend a movie. Many people from the community would attend more movies if an affordable theatre was closer and more accessible. Having a movie theatre in Nashua would keep that money in our district. This non-profit joint effort between the Nashua-Plainfield School District and the City of Nashua will provide a needed source of entertainment for the community and its citizens.

  6. Project Description Our project will be built south of Casey’s General Store to the west of Amhearst Blvd. This is an ideal area for a community theatre because it is near the major highways of Nashua. The lot will be purchased from the Demro family at a cost of $60,000. The 14,000 square foot building will hold approximately 400 people.

  7. Other Odds & Ends • 2 large curtains; 6 small curtains • 32 Lights: 15 stage lights, 12 ceiling lights, 3 spotlights, 3 huge lights • Projector, Screen, Speakers, Microphones • Concessions: Popcorn machine, soda fountain, candy supply, microwave

  8. Cost & Sources of Money The estimated cost of purchasing the lots, building the structure, and installing the equipment is $1,250,000. A Vision Iowa Grant of $600,000 will be a major source of money. Others sources include: Local Option Sales Tax--$140,000, SILO--$240,000, ICCG Grant--$25,000, and Hicok Family Donation--$100,000. A Bond Issue for the City of Nashua will provide the remaining $145,000 over a period of five years. $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $

  9. Time Frame The time frame of this entire project is 3 years. Passing the bond issue, obtaining a Vision Iowa Grant, and raising the remaining funds will take the majority of the time. The construction of the auditorium will take around one year, with installation of the equipment occurring during the winter months.

  10. Human Resources The human resources needed to complete this project are: construction crew, electrician, plumber, and 10 volunteers for concessions, admissions, and janitorial. The Nashua-Plainfield High School will be in charge of the lighting and sound systems for both plays and the cinemas.
