Second New Deal: Farmers • May 1935, Congress created Resettlement Administration • Loaned money to small farmers to buy land • Farm Security Administration • Replaced Resettlement Administration • Loaned more than $1 billion to help tenant farmers become land holders • Established camps for migrant farm workers

Second New Deal: Employment • Works Progress Administration (WPA) • Set out to create jobs quickly • $5 billion budget • Employed more than 8 million persons between 1935 and 1943 • They built: • 850 airports • Constructed/repaired 651,000 miles of roads • 110,000 libraries, schools, and hospitals
