  4. Activities HEALTHY COMMUNITIES • sustainable training programs at the long, intermediate and short-term formats • community outreach services and research programs addressing environmental health risk in vulnerable populations (i.e., young children and pregnant women)

  5. ECOSYSTEM APPROACH TO COMMUNITY HEALTH To build a bridge between the strategy of integrated environmental management and public health (Ecohealth). For local, regional, and national decision-makers responding to communities’ health concerns, this approach may provide a flexible process that can also point the way toward viable long-term solutions.

  6. Goals • To increase communication and cooperation among Mexico’s institutions (e.g., SEMARNAT, CONAGUA, INE, Ministry of Health), as well as among other CEC country members (the U.S. and Canada).

Sept 2009: The New York Times published a shocking investigation of widespread pollution in America’s waterways,and the effect of contamination on the health of millions… …. one in 10 Americans have been exposed to drinking water that fails to meet federal health benchmarks. Exposures include carcinogens in the tap water of major American cities and unsafe chemicals in private wells (which are not regulated at all)
