  2. SC4 – timeline • As far as most people are concerned, SC4 begins 1 April 2006. Storage Middleware

  3. Storage • 80% of sites have SRM 1.1 by end Dec 05 • Already ~14 out of 17 – 82%  • 100% to have SRM 1.1 by end Jan 06 • 40% to have 2.1 by end Feb 06 • Already ~8/17 (47%) DPM • But should upgrade anyway, so perhaps 0/17 • (And we have more than 17 sites) • 100% to have 2.1 by end Mar 06 Storage Middleware

  4. Classic SEs • … to have no Classic SEs by end Mar • SE shutdown procedure: • Migrate to DPM; or • Shut down: • Warn VO – listing files they own • Prevent upload (publish 0 free?) • Wait • Pull the plug Storage Middleware

  5. Tier 1 Storage • Currently provides SRM (to disk and tape) via dCache • RAL’s tapestore will switch to CASTOR2 • For HEP • Not using CASTOR 1 for prod’n • Tier 1 will use CASTOR2 SRM 2.1 • By May/June… not by April Storage Middleware

  6. FTS • All channels T1* by end Jan 06 • All T2 sites have FTS clients by end Jan 06 Storage Middleware

  7. Transfers • “Sustained transfers” to 20% sites by end Dec 05 • “Sustained transfers” to 50% sites by end Jan 05 • “Continuous transfers” to all (1 TB cont) by end Feb Storage Middleware

  8. Transfer tests • Coordinate with Tier 1 • Warn your networkers • Test overnight Storage Middleware

  9. LFC • Installed at 1 site per Tier 2 at end Dec 05 • Installed at 50% of sites end Jan 06 • All sites end Feb 06 Storage Middleware

  10. VO Boxen • (Depends on which sites host which exp’t) • Installed at 1 site per Tier 2 mid Jan 06 • At 50% mid Feb • All participating sites end Mar 06 Storage Middleware

  11. Some questions? • How many boxen does a site need for SC4? • How many sysadmins? Skills? • SE • Network: how much bandwidth/availability • And hardware? • And storage capacity? Storage Middleware
