  3. Persian Gulf War: Causes • Iraq claims Kuwait is stealing oil from Iraqi land: threatens war (July 1990) • Iraq invades Kuwait (August 2, 1990) • Iraq “annexes” Kuwait (August 8, 1990) • video

  4. International Response • United Nations: Embargo placed on Iraq (August 6, 1990) • Great Britain and France send 10,000 troops (September 1990) • UN sets deadline for Iraq to be out of Kuwait by January 15, 1991 (December 1990)
