The Beliefs of Judaism • Believed that God is present everywhere. • God knows everything and has complete power. • God promised Abraham that his people would become Kings and build nations. • Covenant: • Binding agreement. • Moses: • An Israelite leader who the Torah credits with leading the Israelites from Egypt to Canaan. “The Promise Land”
The Ten Commandments • The heart of Judaism. • Believed that God delivered the Commandments to them through Moses. • Set out religious duties toward God. • Others are rules for correct behavior.
Judaism and Women • Some laws protected Women. • 10 Commandments said: • Mothers should be treated with respect. • Had different duties than the Men. • Judge Deborah: • Won honor and respect as religious leader.
Justice and Morality • Prophets: • Religious teachers who are regarded as the speakers for God. • They told the Israelites how God wanted them to live. • Preached a code of ethics, or moral behavior.
