  2. What are reflexive verbs? • A reflexive verb is used when the subject and the object are the same. • The subject is the person doing the action • The object to the person/thing to whom the action is being done.

  3. English Example • I wash my face • Subject:I • Object: my face • Iwashthecar • Subject: I • Object: the car REFLEXIVE NOT

  4. Reflexive verbs have 2 parts • Reflexive pronoun • Indicated by “se” at the end of the infinitive form • It gets changed to match the object • The reflexive pronoun is normally moved in front of the conjugated verb! • Verb • After we have moved the reflexive pronoun to the front, we can conjugate the verb as we usually do!

  5. Full conjugation oflavarse

  6. Un Ejemplo • Lavarse (to wash oneself) • Let’s say we want to write, “You wash your face” Tú te lav ar as se la cara

  7. Un Ejemplo • Afeitarse (to shave) • Let’s say we want to write, “The boys shave (themselves).” afeit ar an se Los chicos

  8. Un Ejemplo • Despertarse (to wake up) • e ie • Let’s say we want to write, “She wakes (herself) up.” Ella desp e ie rt ar a se

  9. Reflexives in the infinitive form • REMEMBER: WE NEVER PUT 2 CONJUGATED VERBS NEXT TO EACH OTHER!!! • This applies to reflexive verbs, too! • When a reflexive verb is in the infinitive form, we still change the reflexive pronoun to match the object…. • but the reflexive pronoun stays at the END of the verb! Un ejemplo: I need to shower (myself). duchar Yo necesito se. me.
