Remit • The Genetics Education and Training Board (GETB) holds professional responsibility for the educational and training development of scientific, technical and other staff working in NHS genetics laboratories, and provides guidance, support and advice on training and development issues in laboratory genetics for members of both the Association for Clinical Cytogenetics (ACC) and the Clinical Molecular Genetics Society (CMGS).

  5. Terms of Office • Each member serves a maximum term of 4 years • The committee retains full and appropriate representation from other committees and groups. • The committee contains members with the necessary experience and expertise to enable it to function. • Membership changes will be staggered to ensure continuity. • The position of Chairperson has tenure of two years and will usually be succeeded by the Vice Chair.

  7. Immediate focus • Oversight and support for trainees (both Clinical Scientist and Genetic Technologists) who are currently in post but not undertaking the modernised training scheme. • Support for Genetic Technologists to attain registered status

  8. Additional roles • Accreditation of laboratories providing training under MSC. • An educational framework for genetic technologists who may currently be employed on an ad hoc basis. • To be responsible for collecting and collating a workforce data in order to inform issues such as skill –mix, succession planning and future staffing profile within the profession. • Establishing an education framework for training staff at career framework levels 1 – 4. • Organisation of national training events and study days
