Resolution 24 • Resolve #1- IAFF Create a packet… to combat attacks • Resolve #2- IAFF Partner with nationwide coalitions/organizations • Resolve #3- Appoint a committee – one member from each district to further recommend action to supplement resources • Resolve #4- Annual meetings – complete by 2010 • Resolve #5- Complete committee recommendations to IAFF Executive Board

Initial Meeting / Committee Report • Recommendations and Action Items • Committee Mission Statement – “Seek to provide retirement security for members and new members; work to protect current benefits and to enhance benefits when possible.” • Establish a ‘go team’ for onsite critical emergencies (further discussion – March Agenda) • Evaluate possibility of an educational certificate program for advanced pension education • Preferred online • Check NCPERS education plans for basic/advanced

Initial Meeting / Committee Report • Recommendations and Action Items (Cont’d) • Create a handbook on pensions like the Healthcare and Economic Crisis handbook • Create website resource page • Consider individual trustee educational programs for states and provinces • Provide a platform for education. State/Province must have pension education as part of PEP or other education programs • Expand ALTS to include pension materials including media interaction • Staff to prepare draft comments on GASB and to forward to committee for review (Submission deadline July 31, 2009)

Affiliate Leadership Training Summit Pension Workshops • Pension Administration • New to 2010 Affiliate Leadership Training Summit • Three workshops geared toward Pension Trustees • Protecting Your Pension – will provide union leaders and pension trustees with information and skills to promote and defend fire fighter pensions • Capital Stewardship – will introduce pension trustees and union leaders to the importance of capital stewardship and pension activism • Fiduciary Duties – will outline the legal duties of trustees regarding pension fund management
