Afghan Entrepreneurs Ready to Build Cold Storage • Toured Cold Storage 24July13 • Some Kabul agribusinesses are ready to invest in cold storage facilities to capture added value in apple, grape and other fruits. • Investors have been assessing various cold storage options from regional suppliers. • Investors express reluctance to buy local and currently available insulated panels and refrigeration systems because of perceived low quality and high cost. • Investors request assistance to find reputable and good value cold storage advice and materials. • Ongoing Action • Fruit cold chain methods are a primary deliverable to participants of the Western US Agriculture Tour slated for 5-19 September. • Complete post harvest fruit handling systems are also a key focus of the September tour. • Seeking cold storage consultant contacts. • Collecting information to assist development of fruit cold storage business plans. • Comprehensive post-harvest systems need to be developed and cold storage needs to be designed to fit the system to avoid premature investment in dysfunctional facilities. 24-July-13
