  3. Summary • Satellite TV grew by 7.1% • While Print Medium grew by just 1% • Hindi Dailies grew by 4.9% • But Hindi Print Medium grew by just 1.5% • Magazine Readership declined consistently

  4. Changes in Dailies by Language (Urban + Rural) (NRS-2002 over NRS-2001) Hindi dailies have grown by a whopping 2.51 mn (4.9 %)!

Growth NRS 02 over NRS-01 • NRS (U+R) universe - grew by 17.7 mn (2.7 %) • Print exposure - grew by just 1.83 mn ( 1 %) • Satellite TV – grew by a whopping 8.9 mn (7.1 %) • NRS (Urban) universe - grew by 6.3 mn (3.2 %) • Print exposure in urban India - grew by just 0.51 mn, (0.5 %) • Satellite TV in urban India grew by a massive 8.1 mn (9.7 %) • Cinema in urban India declined by 3.33 mn (11.3 %)

  14. Growth of Newspapers & Magazines • Newspaper readership grew by 3.92 mn (2.6%) as compared to 2.7% growth of the NRS universe • Magazine readership declined by 3.56 mn • Urban newspaper readers grew by 2.84 mn • Urban magazine readers declined by 3.91 mn

Language-wise performance - Dailies • In urban India, English press readership fallen by 3.2 lakhs (or 1.4 %) • Hindi print - grown by 10.3 lakhs! • Stupendous increase of 25.1 lakhs (or 4.9 %) amongst Hindi dailies! • Dailies in all languages have registered a growth except for Tamil dailies, which have declined by 5.25 lakh (or 3.9 %).

Language-wise performance - Magazines • Hindi magazines have lost readers (21.2 lakh or 5.7 % to be precise). • Magazines in all languages have registered a decline, except for Bengali (1.1 lakh or 2.5 %) and Punjabi (0.2 lakh or 8.4 %). • Hence Tamil publications as a category have suffered the greatest losses in terms of number of readers.
