  1. First of all… • The program went very well for its first year, and this only worked because a number of people went above and beyond the call. In particular • Carol Angarola • Liz Quigg • Anita Amatillo • Linda Spentzouris • Susan Winchester

  2. Student Feedback* • Overall, things went well • Most liked the experience • Most liked their project • Most are glad they survived the USPAS (more about this later) • ALL liked each other • Specific complaints • Delay in getting computer accounts (mostly a Fermilab problem?) • General problem for interns • Will work with CD to streamline the process next year • Organization at ANL • A symptom of the fact that the program was not centralized at ANL (no Carol) • Some complaints about projects or mentors’ time • Generally, purely simulation projects are bad idea • Mentors really need to appreciate the commitment they are making. *courtesy of Linda Spentzouris

  3. USPAS • It’s clear the USPAS went very badly • According to Susan, “worst evaluations in history of the program”! • Lectures went into too much depth on too much stuff • Labs complex, not related to course, and TA’s not prepared. • Try to keep on top of things next year • Contact instructor • Get course materials • Distribute to students and mentors

  4. Endgame for this year • Create a sub-page of the website for “previous years” (ie, this year) • Include names of students, project descriptions, and written reports (I think we have all but two students) • Anita? • Certificates (better late than never) • I’ll handle this • Anything else we need to do?

  5. For next year • Dates • USPAS (Albuquerque): June 15-26, 2009 • I think SULI/IPM is June 7 (one week before) • Propose we match that again • Materials • I’d like to get the posters and website updated by October 1 • Shouldn’t be too hard • Distribute like last year? • Application • Do it like last year? • Should generate a confirmation Email • Automatic reminders to referees? • Can we handle the interface with HR better?

  6. Selection process • Want to make an earlier start this year • I hope we’ll have more applicants this year • Will need to make a first pass selection to generate a short list to circulate to mentors
