  1. 5 Interior House Painting Tips

  2. 1. Avoid Roller Lap Marks • When you use a roller to paint a large wall, if you don't do it right, you will end up with lap marks where you will paint over a part of the wall that you previously painted. To avoid them, be sure to overlap the spots you previously painted before the paint has dried.

  3. 2. Keep Can-To-Can Paint Colour Consistent • Even if they were mixed at the same time using the same color formula, the colors of the paint can vary from one can to the next. To keep the color consistent, pour all the paint you'll need for the job into one container (a five-gallon bucket usually does the trick) and mix well.

  4. 3. Make Edges Cleaner • Even when you use masking tape, getting a perfect edge sometimes seems impossible. When you pull on the masking tape, some of the new paint comes with it. Wait until the paint dries completely and use a knife to cut along the edge of the tape as you remove it.

  5. 4. Get An Even Paint Finish • Be sure to prepare the entire wall after patching holes and cracks with filler. Otherwise, topcoats will absorb differently in repairs than other parts of the wall and will result in an uneven and uneven finish.

  6. 5. Use Cotton Drop Cloths • It is almost impossible to keep your floors free of paint drips. But a good canvas or cotton cloth will do a better job than plastic sheeting. The paint drips remain damp after falling onto the plastic and you can trace a single drop throughout your home. Cloth sheets also hold better in place, are not as slippery as plastic, and are safer for stairs.
