  1. Located in Hsinchu Science Park, the Silicon Village of Taiwan, the synchrotron accelerator of the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC), known as Taiwan's "Magic Lamp of Science", was designed and built by local scientists and engineers. When formally opened in October 1993, the facility was the first third-generation synchrotron light source built in Asia. Synchrotron light began to be made available to domestic and foreign researchers in April 1994. Since that time, the usage by research personnel has increased rapidly with the gradual completion of peripheral experimental facilities. NSRRC's mission is to operate a cutting-edge synchrotron radiation facility for pioneering scientific research. Starting with just three beamlines, NSRRC successfully operate twenty-eight beamlines, eight insertion devices and fifty-four experimental stations all together today, including two beamlines at SPring-8 light source in Japan. NSRRC has been preparing for a new project, Taiwan Photon Source(TPS), since year 2001. Such a machine is expected to deliver a bright beam of emittance of 1.7 nano meter-rad. We expect that the TPS will be the brightest 3 GeV synchrotron in the Asia-Oceania region in the future.
