  1. OIP QUIZ ANSWER KEY No, but I can OIP! That means I can observe, infer, and predict! Can you Dougie?

  2. 1. The dog must have walked in the mud and tracked across the floor. INFERENCE

  3. 2. The clouds are dark grey. OBSERVATION

  4. 3. If placed in water, the cork will float and the rock will sink. PREDICTION

  5. 4. It rained recently. INFERENCE

  6. 5. There are wet, brown marks on the floor in the shape of a dog’s paw. OBSERVATION

  7. 6. The rock is heavier than the cork. OBSERVATION

  8. 7. The salsa tastes hot and spicy. OBSERVATION

  9. 8. It is going to rain soon. PREDICTION

  10. 9. This salsa must have jalapeno peppers in it. INFERENCE

  11. 10. The rock is denser than water and the cork is less dense than water. INFERENCE or OBSERVATION

  12. How can it be both? I originally thought of this as an inference, but today a student pointed out that it could also be an observation. You can’t directly observe density. If you lifted up two objects of the same size and one was much heavier, you’d INFER it was denser. But let’s say you find the volume and mass of an object and then calculate its density. That would be an indirect OBSERVATION. (indirect because you are using tools…)

  13. 11. More people will eat the mild salsa than the spicy salsa. PREDICTION

  14. 12. Mom is going to be mad at the dog when she sees the muddy floor. I tracked mud on the clean floor. PREDICTION
