  4. Why Egypt is important • Egypt is home to the Suez Canal • About 8% of the world’s sea trade travels through the canal • Much Middle Eastern oil travels through the canal

  5. Why egypt is important • Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1977 • The treaty ended nearly 30 years of war between the countries • One of the only Middle Eastern countries to recognize Israel’s legitimacy
