  1. Visual Rhetoric By: Zack Baise

  2. What is the cartoon’s main point? The cartoon shows that not only texting while driving can cause accidents but also drivers do many other stupid things that can also cause accidents.

  3. Describe the people in this cartoon. The driver is playing dumb in a way and seems angry. The cop seems content as if he sees this type of accident every day.

  4. What are the symbols in this cartoon and what do they show? The symbols would be the puzzle, drink, and puppy and they show how careless drivers can be. Instead of paying attention to the road like he should be he has many distractions which caused him to wreck.

  5. How does the written language help demonstrate the message? It shows the officer’s assumption that he was texting because that is how many careless accidents happen.

  6. What would the cartoon be like if the distractions were omitted? If the puppy, puzzle, and drink were omitted then it would look like the driver just had a typical wreck. Them being there shows his carelessness.

  7. What are the logos? The logical appeal is to not have distractions while driving. They could hurt you and others.

  8. What are the ethos? This artwork was on a website called “Text Kills.” This is credible because it fits the purpose of their website. Also it is morally wrong to risk the lives of others by being careless and stupid.

  9. What are the pathos? I do not feel pity for the man. It is his own fault that this happened. If anything I feel disgust and ager towards him.
