SBTD II Support Session 1: Developing Active Pedagogies & Learning-focused Classroom Practices

This support session aims to develop teachers' understanding of the SBTD II program approach and active teaching and learning strategies. Teachers will also discuss their experiences and explore ways to make teaching and learning more interactive.

Objectives of the session • Developing understanding of the overall SBTD II programme approach. • Developing understanding, knowledge and skills in using active teaching and learning strategies. • Developing knowledge and understanding of the content of Modules1and 2. • Sharing experiences on understanding the Activities in Modules1and 2.

Complete the following statements about learning in your Programme Notebook individually. • I learn best when_______________________________________ • I find learning easy when________________________________ • I find learning difficult when______________________________ • I find learning fun when__________________________________ • I find learning with others_________________________________ • Learning by myself is____________________________________ Group work: Discuss your responses and list the responses different from yours.

  4. part 2: ways of learning in the classroom Video: Research and the active nature of learning. Discussion: Give comments on what you have just watched and relate it to the previous discussion on learning.

  7. Part 3: making judgments and teacher expectations While watching the video, think about the factors you think influence the way you react to students in your classroom. Group work: Discuss and share your ideas in groups.

You may make use of the following questions: 1. How did the Activity go and what difficulties did you encounter? 2. How did you overcome the difficulties? 3. What was the impact on students learning and the achievement of the learning objectives?
