  2. MAIN POINTS • STATISTICS • WHY DRINKING AND DRIVING IS DANGEROUS • WHAT IS EFFECTS • CONSEQUENCE’S OF DRINKING AND DRIVING • SIGNS OF A DRUNK DRIVER

  3. Statistics • Among persons aged 12 or older, males were more likely than females (15.1 vs. 7.9 percent) to drive under the influence of alcohol in the past year. • There were 428 drunk driving deaths in Pennsylvania in 2011. • 26 percent of drunk driving deaths in 2011 were in the 16-20 age group. • On average each day, 32 crashes alcohol-related crashes occurred in 2011. • Additionally, 1.2 persons were killed and 23 persons were injured on average each day in Pennsylvania in 2011 because of an alcohol-related accident. • http://www.alcoholalert.com/drunk-driving-statistics.html

  4. STATITICS continued… • In fatal crashes in 2011 the highest percentage of drivers with a BAC level of .08 or higher was for drivers ages 21 to 24. • The proportion of drivers involved in fatal crashes with BAC levels of .08 or higher was 24 percent among males and 14 percent among females • The percentages of drivers involved in fatal crashes with a BAC level of .08 or higher in 2011 were 29 percent for motorcycles, 24 percent for passenger cars, and 21 percent for light trucks. • http://www.alcoholalert.com/drunk-driving-statistics.html

  5. Dangers of Drinking and Driving • A driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.10 or greater is seven times more likely to be involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash than is a driver who has not consumed alcoholic beverages, and a driver with an alcohol concentration of 0.15 or greater is about 25 times more likely. • Basically, the more you drink the more likely you are to have an accident, and a fatal one. • Alcohol impairs judgment, making drivers over-confident and more likely to take risks. It slows their reactions, increases stopping distances, impairs judgment of speed and distance, reduces the ability to concentrate and affects vision. Even a small amount, well below the legal limit, seriously affects the ability to drive safely. • http://www.rospa.com/faqs/detail.aspx?faq=408
