Partnership The Safety Advisory Board (SAB) is a Collaboration between 17 bodies including: The Mayor Iwi (Rangitane) PNCC Management Child Youth and Family NZ Police (Area commander) The education sector Massey University (Student rep) Safe City Trust representative Community Safety Coordinator Mid Central Health Linton Army Camp Emergency services St Johns Ministry of Social Development Fire Service ACC The Ministry of Justice (CPU, advisory role)

  3. Structures and Systems • The SAB does not exercise an executive or governance function and is not a legal entity. • The membership is voluntary with the exception of the part time Community Safety Coordinator.

  4. Crime Prevention Plan • Four Key Projects, to reduce • Alcohol related harm • Burglary, incl of / from vehicles • Domestic violence • Youth offending/reoffending

  5. Crime prevention Plan • Identification of crime issues and trends. • Alignment and monitoring of PNCC strategic policies, operations and services. • Collaboration with government and Community agencies. • Consultation and participation with the community. • Development and implementation of effective strategies and interventions.

Goals / Aims • Palmerston North The Safest City in New Zealand • To assist PNCC, Government and Community organisations to set Strategic Direction in Crime Prevention • Ensure a holistic community approach. • Select priorities, projects and activities and oversee their planning and implementation.

Projects Funded 2007/2008 • Alcohol Harm Strategy • Manawatu Youth driving pogramme • Student Safety Initiative • Burglary Pamphlet for high hit areas • Community based graffiti projects • “Lock it or lose it” carpark signs • Junior neighbourhood Support • “Rock on” truancy programme • Youth offending Team • Blue Light Disco’s

Alcohol Harm Strategy Five principles used in the preparation of this Strategy: • community-based – hollistic, ground up • Inclusive - hollistic, ground up • Pragmatic - identify achievable steps • results focussed - measure initiatives outcomes • living document - The Strategy will be reviewed, evaluated and updated 12 monthly

  9. External funding • 1000 free graffiti removal kits • Based on Hastings District Council programme – Thanks Jacqui Barnes • Manawatu Youth Driving Programme • Directed at reoffenders • 4 course in 12 months • 20 youth per programme • Run by Youth Offending Team
