Introduction • Easily calculate the moody friction factor • Used in correlation with the thermo properties calculator (designed by Jon Isaacson). • Swamee–Jain equation (an approximation of the implicit Colebrook–White equation) (Swamee, P.K.; Jain, A.K. (1976). "Explicit equations for pipe-flow problems". Journal of the Hydraulics Division (ASCE) 102 (5): 657–664)

  3. The Works • Use the Jon Isaacson TP calculator to get the density and dynamic viscosity at the given temperature of the desired fluid • Input: density, dynamic viscosity, diameter, pipe type, mean velocity/mass flow rate/volumetric flow rate • Out put: moody friction factor, flow type, Reynolds number, relative roughness

  4. What's the Advantage? • Used in many ME classes, or for any application in which you need the moody friction factor head loss etc. • Don’t have to read off of a complicated chart. • Probability of error is decreased.
