  2. Body • Emperor penguins arethe world`s largest penguins. They stand nearly 4 1\2 meters tall. These large birds can`t fly.

  3. Habitat • Emperor penguins live in Antarctica. They spend winter on icy plains. In summer they dive and fish in open water.

  4. Food • Emperor penguins eat fish, squid, and krill. Penguins feed their chicks by throwing up food into their mouths.

  5. Life cycle • The female emperor penguin lays one egg then leaves. Then the male takes over. At least 1 month later the female returns to take care of the egg, then the male goesto hunt. And that keeps going on until the egg hatches.

  6. Fun facts • The emperor balances the egg on itsfeet. Emperor`s groups are called colonies. Emperors can stay under water for 20 minutes

  7. Lifespan • Penguins live 19 years in the wild. In the zoo they live 30 years !!! That’s a lot.

  8. Camouflage • When trying to escape from an enemy, penguins go under ice. The white on their bellies helpsthem blend in with the ice!!

  9. How baby penguin`s are born • Adult penguins go to the shore to lay their eggs. When the egg hatchesthe female sitson it to keep it warm.
